Chair Rentals

We went with Hank Parker Rental because they’ve worked with our venue before. My mom and I went there last week and checked out their show room. I expected something WAY different. The place was a little…unprofessional. I mean, they still have good prices, but I was not impressed. The guy who we talked to took forever to greet us, had dirty nails, and his shirt was stained. It looked like he was one of the delivery guys, not the showroom salesperson. *shrugs* I don’t know, maybe I’m just being snobby.

This is the kind of folding chair we’re getting for the ceremony.

This is the kind of chair cover we’re getting for the reception…although it really doesn’t look impressive from this picture. :-/

Wedding Cake

I’ve been working with the wedding cake designer/baker at the Burgundy Basin, and I sent her over what I wanted the cake to look like. (Click here to see full sized image.)

She said that she didn’t know if she could do the knot design justice, but that she would try. We ordered a sample cake, and she did the design on it. It came out ok, but not as smooth as I’d hoped. I’m not sure how she would make it that smooth though. I’ll post pictures of it later.

The cake tasted good. It was maybe a little dry, but over all not bad. And I mean, we’re only paying $100 for this, so how could could we really expect it to be. John’s mom HATED it, which was a little annoying, but oh well. That didn’t stop her from eating half of it!

The cake topper arrived from the UK and it was A LOT smaller than I expected it to be! I’m thinking it will be ok though, because it’s so tall, but I wish it was thicker. Maybe if we add some flowers to the base it would be ok. I’ll have to play with it.

To Do

Still to do:

- Go through the replies to my Craigslist posting asking for musicians to play during the ceremony (I’ve crossed out the ones I don’t want)

  • Steve Rutledge, classical/acoustic guitarist. [Link] – $200-350
  • The About Face Band, live jazz duo, solo classical guitar, deejay/emcee, dance party group, sound system, and light show. [Link] – $?
  • Nathan DelleFave, vocalist (Bass1-Tenor1 vocal range) [No Link, can email mp3] – $75 per solo performance
  • Nick Barretta, guitarist [Link] – $?
  • Patricia Rolland, oboist [No Link] – $?
  • Adrian DiMatteo, jazz guitarist [Link] – $120
  • Paulsen Baker & Garvey [Link]- $?
  • Luminescence, vocal trio [No Link] – $400

- Reply to the emails sent out to Reverends/Pastors I contacted about performing our ceremony

Although, now that I think about it…since we just bought a house, I should look for someone from a church around there so I can start to build a relationship with their congregation…

- Research honeymoon locations. We’re thinking that we want to go to the Poconos or someplace like that, but who knows. It won’t be too cold, so maybe we could go to Maine or camping in the Adirondacks. I think one of John’s co-workers has a cabin. There will be NO tent camping on MY honeymoon, lol.

- Finish making the invitations (above) for people who don’t need them mailed out. (I made the ones that needed to be mailed out and sent them out last month.) I need to get cracking on this one. The picture above is just the mockup I did to make sure I cut everything to the right size before I went and made all 40 of them. The pocket is really pink, and the paper behind the invitation is printed to look like woven ribbon with pearl accents. They came out so great. I’ll make a post dedicated just to them later.

- Buy more or find different suitable ribbon to finish off reception favors.

- Make photo collage of baby pictures. (?) I’m not sure if I want to do this just yet.

- Make appointment with Lisa’s co-worker to talk wedding hair.

- Confirm with Molly about her doing the makeup for the ceremony.

Aside from follow up meetings with the various vendors and my dress fitting… could this be it? Mom, let me know if I’ve forgotten anything!

Wedding Band

We bought our rings, but I only have a picture of mine right now…and it’s a crappy camera phone one. I’ll have to edit this post later with better ones!

Its a simple band with a line of diamonds. We wanted the band to be muted. I tried on a band with diamonds in the next size up, and it was awful. The band really took away from the engagement ring. Which was not cool. I really like these two together. Now to get them sized!

Flowers

So…it’s been a while since I posted, huh? Well, to try and keep everything organized, I’m going to try to recap everything.

We settled on Bloomers Flowers for the florist, and are going to go with round bouquets of spring roses, hydrangea, and I THINK stephanotis. (This is why I should have blogged about this sooner!) The people on the isles will be adding regular sized roses.

Sami’s bouquets will be similar, and the corsages will be roses…I think. I’m not sure. I was disappointed that lilies wouldn’t be able to be included in them, but the only ones the florist had access to would have been too big for the bouquet size I wanted.

We are also ordering ferns for the gazebo, and are having little cups filled with flowers hanging from the chairs on the isle. I bought containers that I thought would work, but it turns out that they might be WAY too big. But they were only 87 cents each, so if they do work, it will be quite the steal!

And our idea for the centerpieces has COMPLETELY changed. We are no longer going with the idea I had in college, but we’re taking a cue from the place that we’re getting married. I bought bird feeder gazebos off ebay, (seen above) and my dad was able to get the tops off, so we can add flowers inside. It’s going to be sooo pretty! He also added these little tabs so the lids won’t slide around. They’ll have to be glued or nailed again if they are ever going to live as bird feeders, but they’re great for our purposes now.

The seller (xtremebuys4u) was really great with communication. Shipping was crazy expensive, but the bird houses were only 5 bucks each, so it was ok. Two of them arrived a little damaged, and when I told the seller, he sent me two more at no extra charge. Sweet!

I also a birdcage at Michaels for $20 that will be great to put the cards in, once it’s lined with fabric. It was originally $40, but was 50% off. Can you believe it?! I *so* lucked out!
