Location & Decorating Ideas!

The weather was is bad today; the roads are worse, and we couldn’t check out the Avon Inn.  😦

So it looks like we’re having the wedding/reception at the Burgundy Basin!  I just confirmed the date and we have a follow-up meeting at noon on the 22nd.

One thing done, omg!

 Decorating Ideas:
– pedistals with flowers at the end of last isle ONLY

– paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling of gazebo
– Wish Tree: The purpose of the tree is for guests to write down their advice or well wishes on a card and than hang their wish from our tree.

– chair covers (the ones the ceremony site provides are plain ugly folding chairs. They will need to be covered or replaced with white wooden ones.)
– a memorial candle w/multiple names on it (grandparents x2, uncle bob)
– pictures in frames comparing baby uses vs adult uses

– bubbles blown at end of ceremony/reception (whenever), not rice/bird seed thrown

Also, weddingbycolor.com is a FANTASTIC website! I mentioned it before, and if I didn’t have this blog, I might make one over there!

My favorite brides are Kelly and Amy. They’re inspiring!

I like this photographer too. Her site took a while to load, but once it did it was pretty cool. Once again though, it didn’t list any prices. 😦 Doooooom.

This is so cool. I wonder if the Burgundy Basin has a setting area like this…

Such pretty fall colors!

I love the drama of this one, but I know its the setting that makes the photo.

Hilarious! I must have a shot like this. It’s a kick in the pants! Oh, I slay myself. XD

YAY!

TJT Photography

There was a postcard for TJT Photography in the folder that The Burgundy Basin gave us, so I thought I’d check them out.

I really like the idea of this one; to have everyone in a picture.  I feel bad for the people right behind the bride and groom though, lol.

Look!  During ceremony shot!

A jumping picture at a wedding?!  YES.  I wonder how many takes this took.

This is adorable.  I hope there are enough leaves at my wedding!

The guy has done a lot of work around Rochester, wedding and non-wedding related, which I think is really cool. He even went to RIT, so it shows that he’s dedicated to the area. I don’t know why, but I like that. Maybe because it implies that he knows how the weather is, so he might be better apt to shoot in various weather? I don’t know.

There isn’t any pricing or package info on the site.  This sets off an impending feeling of doom.  😦

I’m surprised, but I actually like how these people (this person?) edits photos!

Pictures like this make me wonder if my color scheme is so wrong for a fall wedding.

This is the picture that made me check them out. AMAZING.

I take this kind photo all the time! Someone taking a picture of something I want to take a picture of? Yes, please!

Adorable.

So romantic.

Bridal Bouquets

I’m having a hard time picking out a bouquet because I’m not sure how my flower idea will work. I want the people on the isles to add flowers to my bouquet as I walk down the isle. Maybe start off with a small bouquet, add as I go, and have my mom tie a ribbon around the whole thing before I stand next to John? That would be nice.

These are some bouquets I like from Bloomers Floral & Gifts:

Except I would have pink lilies and I would use lisianthus instead of the daisies.

Might have another flower instead of the red roses. I don’t want a rose-heavy bouquet.

 ————————————

These are from Enright Florist.

I don’t know if I like the long ones dangling though.

My version would have MUCH LESS green in it though…

 ————————————

And some from Joseph’s Floral & Gifts.

I’m actually ok with the green in this one.  I would replace the little pink flowers with white ones though, maybe stephanotis or sweet peas, if they work.

But not ok with the green in this one, lol.  I don’t like how it’s pretty much only lilies though.

Photographers

I am seriously stressing out over photographers. Is it wrong that I lose respect for someone if their website is hosted on Geocities/Tripod/etc?

Shots that are SUPER important for the photographer I choose to get:

  • Ceremony pics that show our faces. This means behind the priest; over the shoulder.
  • The first kiss as a married couple
  • Fun AND formal group shots
  • The cake cutting/smushing on each other’s faces
  • My dance with John and then my dance with my Dad

Really, those are the only super important ones. I am looking through online galleries to see if photographers match up with the list, and no one I’ve seen yet gets them all.

K and T Photography

John heard about them from someone he works with. They seem to take digital photos, and judging from their website, I don’t think they’d have a problem giving me all of the raw files. They’re site is hosted on kodakgallery.com, which has a cool slide show feature, but I know nothing about their pricing or anything. Not even contact info. I mean, I have that because John got it…but it’s not on their site at all.

Seems a little dark. I mean, I could fix this no problem in photoshop, but should I have to?

Outside photos seem dark in gazebo shots… Doesn’t seem to ever catch the kiss well…

Photocreations

These guys have their site on Tripod. What bothers me most though is that they don’t have any galleries up that I can click through.

This one is like a dream!

It seems like they take nice photos, but almost all the photos they have on the site are already edited. I want to see what the original files look like!!!

Amy Nieto Photography

I love the facial expressions in this one so much!

This is my friend Amy, and I wish she lived closer because I love how colorful her pictures are! She really fits the “fun” aspect I’m looking for. Formal pictures aren’t hard; just stand people together. But catching someone laughing without them looking crazy? NOT EASY. Believe me, I take crazy looking pictures all the time.

Fields’ Images

My friend Jessica knows this person. They have a page set up on MySpace, so Jess said that they might be willing to trade the photos for a website. Which is pretty much awesome.

Jess also said that the number of photos uploaded to the MySpace page don’t properly show the woman’s talents. So I might have to see the pics in person. She can get the kiss, which is a plus.

————————————–

Is it too much to ask for a photographer who doesn’t cost a lot and takes digital photos? They don’t have to edit them, and I don’t need a fancy album. Just give me the raw files and I’ll edit it all myself!

Girlie Stuff: Dresses & Hair

I was originally thinking of waiting until my Mom came up to visit me in May to go dress shopping, but then I realized that would be less than four months before the wedding IF we found a dress. So I had a quick panic attack, and called her up so we could go dress shopping online together. The first place we looked was Alfred Angelo, and wouldn’t you know it (this is just like me) we looked tons of other places too, and this was the only site I found dresses I liked. Always at the first place, always. *shakes head*

I think this one was our favorite. Isn’t it pretty? I love the details! You’ll notice with all the dresses I’ve chosen, there is a little bit of pink. Even when I designed my wedding dress in college, I included color!

This one is probably the closest to the one I designed in college, except the bow was in the back. And the one I designed didn’t have a train. My mom thinks all these trains might not do so well with the outdoor wedding we’d like to have. 😦 I never thought of that…

I thought the detailing on this one was nice, but I don’t think my mom thought too much of it. She moved on pretty quickly to the next one when I told her to click on it, lol.

We both loved this for the flower girl’s dress. It’s got little flowers on the skirt! How adorable.

I think this matches the bride’s maid dress I designed, but I’ll have to go back and look. I don’t really remember. Ah, I graduated only 3 years ago, and the memories are already fading. I might have the maid of honor and one bride’s maid. If that is the case, one will wear a pink dress, and one will wear a grey one. Otherwise…I guess it will be up to my maid of honor which color she’d like. Hooray flexibility!

And then we found a site where people could create their own profiles and share stories and photos about their wedding. Of course though, I didn’t save the link. I’m so mad about that too. I think my mom did, so I’ll see if I can get it from her. Anyway, this one woman posted her hair picture and I FELL IN LOVE.

Dress photos from Alfred Angelo’s site, edited by me.

Burgundy Basin

Today we went to the Burgundy Basin, which was pretty nice. When we pulled up to the building, we were unimpressed, but it everything else seemed nice. (Except for the wallpaper diamonds on the walls of some of the reception rooms…hello 1980s!) They were very professional, and it really seems like they know what they are doing. They’ve received the Democrat and Chronicle “Rochester’s Choice” awards, 6 years in a row, so this was no surprise. This was the only place that had handouts for us to take home, and a video for us to watch. I really like that this is pretty much an all in one place; ceremony site, reception site, and bakery. They even offer decorating packages and will provide background music at the reception free of charge. This is super convenient since we don’t know a lot of places around here.

John and I are still deciding on whether we should have a buffet or sit down dinner, but I think I’m winning. Sit down FTW!!!!

Basically, we have narrowed the sites down to two choices:

  • Burgundy Basin
  • Top of the World Gardens with a reception at the Avon Inn

The Burgundy Basin is holding our date/time (Sept. 14th, 2008 @ 11am) for a week. We have an appointment to check out the Avon in on the 8th, so we should know after that were we’re having our wedding! Excitement!!!

Photo taken by ME, can you imagine?
